Joshua Jortner is a Professor Emeritus at the School of Chemistry. He received the Israel Prize in chemistry in 1982 and the "Emet" prize in 2008
Professor Joshua Jortner from the School of Chemistry won the prestigious Higher Education Prize to a Senior Staff Member in an Institute for Higher Education for the year 2016.
The judges wrote in their decision: Prof. Jortner made important, unique and central contributions to the planning, promotion, framework, standard and achievements of the higher education system in Israel, out of a deep commitment to the state of Israel and central role of science in shaping the norms, values and image of the country.
Prof. Jortner adopted a path that we follow to this day and will continue in the future. As a symbol of our appreciation for his groundbreaking and significant contributions to academic research, and for his outstanding leadership in varied functions in various institutions shaping the Higher Education System in the state of Israel while strengthening its excellence for generations, the Prize Committee found Prof. Jortner most suitable for the Higher Education Prize to a Senior Staff Member for the year 2016.
