Message from Professor Nir Sochen, Head of School

Welcome to the School of Mathematical Sciences at Tel Aviv University!

The School of Mathematical Sciences is made up of the Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics, and Statistics and Operations Research Departments. It is home to nearly 90 faculty members, 85 Ph.D. students, and currently has over  200 M. Sc. students and about 500 undergraduates.

The programs are fascinating and challenging. The School is a true hub  of academic activities covering the whole  spectrum of mathematics and statistics. Seminars are held weekly in different areas. The School also attracts leading scientists from around the world who visit and lecture

Undergraduate Studies

The school offers programs in mathematics and statistics, as either a  single major or a  double major.

The mathematics curriculum emphasizes logical inference, with a focus on proving theorems and  a view toward depth and abstraction. The first year study program lays the foundations for the advanced courses that are studied in the second and third year. These courses expose the depth and beauty of mathematics, as well as its applications to practical problems.

The programs in statistics and operations research provide an extensive background in these areas, and also equip students with a solid base  in mathematics. Classes cover data analysis and mathematical modeling and advanced computational tools.

Students who choose to take a  double major can select from a wide range of disciplines . Frequent  choices are computer science, economics, business administration, philosophy and psychology.  In addition, students can enroll in  a double major in mathematics and statistics-operations research.

Graduate Programs

Graduate studies include courses and research under the guidance of a faculty member. Research enables students to engage in the fascinating world of scientific discovery.

The school offers a variety of M.Sc. programs. ThePh.D. track involves research and  work  with a supervisor from  the faculty.

Faculty and research activities

The School of Mathematical Sciences has a strong international reputation in research. Tel Aviv University is located high in well-known ratings of universities like the Shanghai rankings.

The School of Mathematical Sciences has a strong international reputation in research. Tel Aviv University scores high consistently on such  well-known university ratings as the Shanghai Academic Rankings of World Universities.

Faculty members are frequently invited to speak at major conferences  and  serve as scholars in residence at  the world's leading institutions. The school encourages educational and research excellence in its students. Many go on  to earn advanced degrees and have  careers in  teaching and research , or  go straight into key positions in high-tech, financial institutions, and R&Din  industry and the public sector .

Exploring the deeper layers of mathematics and statistics is a fascinating experience. We look forward to having you join us on this adventure.
