In Appreciation of the Sackler Family

The Sackler family holds an important place in the history of Tel Aviv University and the Faculty of Exact Sciences. Dr. Raymond Sackler’s relationship with the University began more than five decades ago, when he joined the Board of Governors in 1972. In 1976, he was elected Chairman of the Board. Together with his wife, Beverly Sackler, he played a significant role in the University’s growth and the advancement of science, guided by a vision of keeping Israel at the forefront of the international scientific and scholarly community and placing Tel Aviv University on the world map.

In 1982, the Faculty of Exact Sciences was dedicated in honor of Raymond and Beverly Sackler. Over the years, their support fostered scientific excellence and international collaboration throughout the University. Their generosity supported research institutes, programs that brought leading scientists and scholars from around the world to Tel Aviv University, international partnerships, and prestigious scientific prizes. Their vision helped advance groundbreaking research, nurture generations of researchers, and enrich the intellectual life of the University. Their legacy is woven into the Faculty’s development and scientific achievements.

The Sackler family’s support of Tel Aviv University extended over many years. In keeping with this longstanding commitment, Dr. Richard Sackler, on behalf of the family, made the generous decision to allow the Faculty of Exact Sciences to be named for a future donor. This decision opened an exceptional opportunity for the Faculty to secure significant new resources for research in physics, mathematics, chemistry, geophysics, and computer science.

We are grateful to Richard and his wife, Lin Gao, for their support throughout this process. Lin is a visionary philanthropist who has dedicated her career to propelling global strategies to empower mankind.

For decades, the Sackler family’s generosity has helped the Faculty grow, flourish, and pursue scientific excellence. Their decision to make a new naming opportunity possible opens the way for further support of scientific research and creates new opportunities for future generations of researchers and scientists.
