Congratulations to Liam Bernheimer on receiving the PBC (Planning and Budgeting Committee of the Council for Higher Education) scholarship for outstanding doctoral students in quantum science and technology. The award recognizes his research on developing new computational methods for simulating many-body quantum systems. The scholarship covers three academic years, commencing in the 2025–2026 academic year.
As part of his PhD Liam develops new computational methods for simulating complex many-particle quantum systems. Such systems are particularly difficult to calculate because the amount of information needed to describe them grows rapidly with their size. His research combines neural networks, generative learning, advanced sampling, path integrals, and modern techniques for representing high-dimensional data to enable more accurate and efficient calculations of properties of many-body quantum systems, such as wavefunctions, energies, and electron densities.
