About the Department
The Department of Geography and the Human Environment endeavors to achieve international excellence in teaching and research in human and physical geography and geo-informatics. The department takes an interdisciplinary approach to the study of human–environment interactions, using state-of-the-art quantitative and qualitative methods.
The studies in the department introduce students to advanced methodological tools and theoretical approaches to the investigation of the complex physical and human processes that shape our world. We apply a holistic perspective to the exploration of current social, environmental and economic challenges such as climate change, demographic and urban growth, problems related to transportation and mobility in cities, social inequality and questions of health and lifestyle. We use these tools and approaches both in fundamental research and in planning and development practices.
The department offers B.A., M.A. and PhD. programs and a special program for outstanding students, which allows them to take an active role in our research laboratories.
