Abstract:

While the physics of surface plasmon-polaritons on flat surfaces and in nanoparticles is already well-established, surface-plasmons propagating on micron-sized, mid-range, particles have remained mainly unexplored.
We examine surface plasmon polaritons that are confined to propagate on metallic microspheres and study their properties theoretically and experimentally. Investigation of theses surface waves reveals intriguing physical effects that arise from the curvature of the surface.
