Professor Yoram Dagan - Head of the School of Physics & Astronomy

Welcome to the School of Physics and Astronomy at Tel Aviv University.

The school was founded in 1963 and has earned an international reputation as a leading academic institution. The school's two main activities are research and teaching, both of which are crucial for advancing physics in Israel and beyond, and they complement each other. The excellent teaching at the school stems from a research-oriented approach and a constant strive to be at the forefront of research. Outstanding research is a result of the comprehensive training provided here and the research students nurtured at the school.

The Search for the Unknown

Faculty members at the school lead world-class research activities in various fields of modern physics, ranging from the study of the tiny world of elementary particles and nuclear physics, through the physics of complex systems, electronic systems, biophysics, nanotechnology, applied physics, to cosmology and the study of the universe.

Graduate and post-doctoral students from around the world, as well as outstanding undergraduate students, actively participate in this research.

Teaching Physics

Studying physics is one of the most challenging curricula on campus and beyond. Learning physics is akin to a journey that requires effort and perseverance, yet it exposes students to the mysteries of the universe and matter, providing insights that offer intellectual and spiritual power. The school offers a variety of study and research programs for bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees.

The undergraduate programs aim to develop analytical thinking, the ability to learn and research independently, and solve new problems using mathematical tools, while providing a deep understanding of physical phenomena and broad exposure to modern physics research.

Graduates of the School of Physics at Tel Aviv University integrate into academic research and hold key positions in research and development in the high-tech industry and other sectors.

Study Tracks

The School of Physics and Astronomy offers a variety of study tracks for a bachelor's degree, ranging from an extended program in physics to combinations with mathematics, computer science and quantum computing, earth sciences, chemistry, electrical engineering, neuroscience, and life sciences. These combined programs allow for in-depth study of both disciplines even at advanced degree levels.

Additionally, double-major programs allow students to combine physics studies with any other department on campus.

Promoting Excellence

The School of Physics and Astronomy at Tel Aviv University encourages and fosters academic and research excellence. Within the various honors programs, students can engage in research during their undergraduate studies. Outstanding graduates are invited to continue with us in the research and study tracks at advanced degrees, where they will conduct experimental and theoretical research at an international level and contribute to the expansion of human knowledge to understand the universe and advance technology.

Sincerely,

Professor Yoram Dagan,

Head of the School
