Abstract:

The Hall coefficient RH  is phenomenologically assumed to measure the electron or hole density in metals and semiconductors. However, this approach cannot explain ‘’Hall anomalies’’  in strongly correlated metals and superconductors. Recent advances in quantum transport theory allow us to calculate the RH  beyond weak scattering regimes. We learn that  while RH still characterizes  the "moving parts" of the current, these could be very different from the conduction electrons  of  conventional bandstructure theory.
