Abstract:

I consider non-perturbative aspects of a recently proposed composite Higgs model, in which a new strongly interacting sector undergoes chiral symmetry breaking, and generates the Higgs particle as a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson.  In addition, the top quark couples linearly to baryons of the new strong sector, thereby becoming partially composite.  I derive the effective potential for the Higgs induced by the couplings of the strong sector to the electroweak gauge bosons and to the top quark, as well as the induced top quark Yukawa coupling.  I discuss what can be learned from a large-N limit, and finally describe our ongoing effort to study this model using lattice techniques.
