YoungEC '17
The workshop on Economics and Computation was held in the Blavatnik computer science school, Tel-Aviv University during January 2-5, 2017, with about 80 participants from Israel and abroad.
The workshop brought together a variety of researchers from leading universities that included a small number of extremely established central figures in the field together with a larger number of the brightest rising stars worldwide in the area.
We found the focus on the younger researchers appealing both since in this young research field, much of the exciting work comes from the young researchers, and because their impact on the field in the future is naturally likely to be largest. Additionally, due to their young age, it was possible to attract most of the brightest stars worldwide.
Our Goals
The workshop had several important goals. One goal was to disseminate the knowledge and results that are obtained in our ERC project. This is of course especially supported by the young age of most of the attendees.
Second, since these young researchers have contributed many of the most important recent results in this area, we wished to study from them about these new developments and try to find synergies between the different research threads.
Third, we wished to connect the leading young researchers worldwide with each other, as well as with young Israeli scholars. Finally, we aimed at strengthening the emerging connections between economists and computer scientists.
In addition, we invited leading experts to give inspiring lectures on their areas of research.
The workshop was a great opportunity for us to share the results we obtained in our ERC project with leading experts in the area, as well as the younger researchers, to achieve the best possible dissemination. We have also found many interesting connections between our project and other problems studied by researchers in the community, and this was a great opportunity to foster collaboration. Many subsequent papers were inspired by talks and conversations in this workshop.
