Biological & Soft Matter Seminar

Abstract:

The talk discusses various effects that arise when the underlying dynamics of electrolytes changes from passive to active Brownian motion.  The focus is laid on the structure of a double-layer in a wall geometry.  The first part of the talk introduces active Brownian motion in an intuitive manner and provides a number of basic examples. The second part presents a number of novel features that arise in a system of active ions. To better appreciate these findings, these effects are compared with analogous behaviors found in normal electrolytes.
