February 2023: New Edmond J. Safra affiliate: Dr. Viviane Slon
Dr. Viviane Slon is joining the Edmond J. Safra Center as an Affiliate.
Dr. Viviane Slon is a faculty member in the Department of Anatomy and Anthropology and the Department of Human Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry at the Sackler Faculty of Medicine, and is joining the Edmond J. Safra Center as an Affiliate.
Dr. Slon's PhD and post-doctoral research on Evolutionary Genetics were conducted at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology (Leipzig, Germany). She joined TAU as a Senior Lecturer in October 2020.
Dr. Slon's research is in the field of paleogenetics - the recovery and analysis of genetic information from ancient organisms - aiming to study the history of past populations and the evolution of the genome. Her current focus in on (i) reconstructing the genetic makeup of ancient populations in the southern Levant; and (ii) developing laboratory and computational methods to study traces of ancient DNA in sediments deposited at archaeological sites.
