May 2022: The Third Annual Workshop of the Koret - UC Berkeley - TAU Initiative

The third annual workshop of the Koret - UC Berkeley - Tel Aviv University (KBT) Initiative in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics took place on May 26 2022 in Jaglom Auditorium at TAU.

Some 80 researchers participated in the workshop, including Berkeley researchers. Prof. Karen Avraham, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at TAU, opened the workshop. She greeted the audience and emphasized the importance of the Berkeley-TAU collaboration.  The workshop was co-chaired by TAU Prof. Adi Stern, steering committee member of the KBT, and UC Berkeley Prof. Steven Brenner, the Berkeley PI of the KBT Initiative. Prof. Stern welcomed the audience, which included researchers and students from the TAU bioinformatics community, and moderated the first session.

The workshop's program included three sessions and contained talks by eight senior researchers from UCB and TAU, including five UCB researchers: Profs. Steven Brenner, Jennifer Listgarten, Joseph Lewnard, Peter Sudmant and Andres Cardenas. In addition, there was an invited talk by Prof. Jean-Philippe Vert of Mines ParisTech, and three flash talks of TAU graduate students. The speakers presented their research in diverse areas of computational biology and bioinformatics.

On the evening following the workshop, the Berkeley guests and the TAU speakers went out together for a dinner in a restaurant in the old train station (Ha'Tachana) in the beautiful neighborhood of Neve Tzedek.

The workshop strengthened the collaboration between TAU and Berkeley researchers and laid the foundation for establishing new partnerships towards the forthcoming joint KBT grants call.
