June 2021: Digital Medicine Conference

The Digital Medicine Conference, a joint initiative of Anthem Israel and the Edmond J. Safra Center for Bioinformatics at TAU, took place on Tuesday June 29 2021 in Riverside, Hayarkon Park, Tel-Aviv.

The event was dedicated to the latest computational innovations in healthcare research, at the intersection of science and industry, and it brought together researchers and industry experts. It aimed to bring together a community that will develop methodologies and construct computational tools for analysis of clinical data and Electronic Medical Records, leveraging the strong bioinformatics, machine learning, and medical research in Israel.

The scientific program was organized by Prof. Ron Shamir, Head of the Edmond J. Safra Center and Dr. Dvir Aran of the Technion. The technical organization was conducted by Anthem Israel. The conference attracted more than 250 participants from academia, industry and hospitals, who were excited to meet in person for the first time after the pandemic year. The conference was highly overbooked and hundreds of additional registrants could not be invited.

The program included 15 high quality scientific talks by researchers from academia in Israel, Clalit Research Institute, Harvard Medical School, IBM Research and Anthem. Three of the speakers were Edmond J. Safra members, Profs. Malka Gorfine (Statistics), Prof. Ron Shamir (Computer Science) and Prof. Noam Shomron (Medicine). The coffee and lunch breaks allowed networking and interaction among the participants. Many new contacts were formed and novel collaborations are likely to emerge from the event. We heard many excellent responses from the participants.
