Physics is crucial to understanding the macroscopics world as well as the microscopic world. It is the most fundamental of all the sciences. Physics deals with the very small scales to the very large ones: from the fundamental particles of matter to the universe as a whole. Physics challenges the imagination and our awareness of the world. Research in physics covers phenomena from the quantum world of subatomic particles, through physical processes in the living cell, to the "Big Bang". It has led to discoveries that have revolutionized science and technology. 

 

The study of physics is an excellent starting point for almost any career. In addition to an extensive background in physics, students are taught how to analyze complex problems and develop key thinking tools, all of which are crucial components to any scientific, analytical or technological field. Physicists learn to "think outside the box", and to solve problems innovatively with the bigger picture in mind. Level of teaching and curricula: Physics at Tel Aviv University is taught at the very highest level. Teachers utilize the latest teaching devices, including numerous of demonstrations of physical phenomena in a variety of fields. Range of academic programs: The Department's motto is 'study what you love'. The School of Physics and Astronomy offers students a variety of academic programs towards a B.Sc. degree. These include physics as a single major, or double-major programs combining physics with mathematics, computer science, geosciences, chemistry, electrical engineering or life sciences. Upon successful completion of these B.Sc. programs, students can earn a Master’s degree in physics or in the second major. In addition, there are other double-major programs combining physics with other fields of study in other departments.

 

Research projects for top undergraduatesUndergraduates can experience the frontiers of physics research by being part of a research group during the summer. Top students can take part in even more in-depth research during their 3rd year through the Excellence Program (Hebrew). This program has led to the publication of scientific articles by 3rd year students and lays the groundwork for graduate research. 

The "Physics at Noon" internal lectures introduce students to cutting edge research conducted at Tel Aviv University and as part of international projects.

 

Level of research: The School of Physics and Astronomy at Tel Aviv University is known for its high quality of research and ranks consistently among the top physics departments in the world. Research by faculty members and graduate students (as well as undergraduate students) are published regularly in leading journals and have had an international impact on many areas of physics.

 

Diverse research fields: Research in physics at Tel Aviv University includes theoretical and experimental work spanning a wide variety of areas starting with the tiny world of elementary particles and nuclear physics, through condensed matter physics, biophysics, nano-technology, applied and optics physics, to astronomy and cosmology.

 

Mentoring for the honors program: Students in the honors program are assigned to a faculty member, who acts as their mentor and guides them throughout their studies.

 

Post-graduate studies and job opportunities: About half of the undergraduate students completing a physics B.Sc. degree at Tel Aviv University continue their graduate studies at the University or other top institutions in Israel or abroad. Others choose to enter the job market, where they are in great demand.
