Special Physics Colloquium: Recent Results from the Atacama Cosmology Telescope
Prof. David Spergel, President Simons Foundation
Abstract:
The cosmic microwave background is a probe not only of conditions in the early universe but also of the universe’s evolution.
CMB observations probe the distribution of mass, electron momentum, and thermal pressure along the line-of-sight through observations of CMB lensing, the kinematic SZ effect, and the thermal SZ effect. Cross-correlations of these measurements with probes of large-scale structure enhance the scientific impact of these measurements. I will present recent results form the Atacama Cosmology Telescope and describe their implications for “tensions” in cosmology and look forward to new observations from the Simons Observatory.
